Custom Lights for Coastal Pavilion

The Bondi Pavilion reopens in late September 2022 following a sensitive upgrade from Tonkin Zulaikha Greer. Tasked with preserving the 1920s heritage elements while creating a contemporary community and cultural hub, the TZG design improves the amenity of the pavilion and its connections with its surrounds.

The lights in the main entrance from the oceanside and in the handwash area are intended to be harmonious with the setting. Lighting consultants, Electrolight, provided the concept for the white and black circular lights and Di Emme was responsible for developing the design, prototyping, production, and installation.

To withstand the harsh sea air, the lights are constructed from stainless steel. The foyer light is painted white and the other black with Dulux Luxathane. The white light has a flexible NEWMAT membrane stretched across its form. The translucent membrane is backlit with tuneable LEDs ranging from daylight white, 6000 Kelvin, to a warmer 2700 Kelvin. The light is pre-programmed to change colour from day to evening. The light in the handwashing bay is lit with LED flexible 2700k strip.
