Exterior Artwork Shines Light on The Sherwood’s History

The Sherwood is a new sports and entertainment venue in Leumeah adjacent to Campbelltown Sports Stadium and Wests Leagues Club. Formerly known as Wests Tennis Club, the venue takes its name from Sherwood Hills, an early suburb in the region that was incorporated into Bradbury in 1969.

Tennis is still a key feature with 13 synthetic grass and one hard court for day and night play, plus The Sherwood boasts a huge outdoor space with a retractable roof which is unique in the area.

Di Emme created an exterior artwork for The Sherwood based on an aerial map of Campbelltown. The work is comprised of aluminium panels with an Interpon® powder coat giving the appearance of rusted steel.  Thanks to its hefty size (8m x 8m) and Haron Robson’s lighting design, the artwork is clearly visible from the train line and across the valley.

Based on a concept from Curtin, Bathgate & Somers architects, Di Emme came up with drawings and samples, and prototyped a single large panel for client approval.   The finished panels were installed by Di Emme utilising a fixed scaffold and a block and tackle system for hoisting the massive panels.
